Have you heard of Simon Wing? After this month’s history talk, you will recognize the name and be able to tell about him. Born in St. Albans, Maine, Simon came to Waterville for school and ended up opening Daguerrian Gallery on Main Street. Early photography items in the collection will be displayed as well as some of Simon’s amazing work. Hear about his inventions and career, including the incredible chemistry knowledge a photographer had to have. Perhaps he even purchased some of his supplies from an apothecary shop nearby, much like our museum apothecary. This is a collaborative presentation of Waterville Historical Society and St. Albans Historical Society Vice President, Caroll Bryant. Bryant brings with him in-depth knowledge about Simon Wing’s rich life and career. October’s history talk is inspired by the Wing Assembly of Maine’s visit to Waterville this month.
