KVCAP’s new Fleet Services building was abuzz on October 26 and 27 as Transportation office staff and agency and volunteer drivers filtered in and out throughout the day to enjoy breakfast items from Hillman’s Bakery and/or a barbecue lunch.
Volunteer drivers received a thank you card and a small token of thanks, and our agency drivers received a number of small gifts that will help them in their daily job duties.
“Our agency drivers really appreciated being recognized for their contributions,” said Adam Cullivan, Interim Director of Fleet Operations. “They are committed to the work we do and the people we serve. Many were excited to receive the unexpected gifts, especially the fleece jackets and hats with the agency logo that they will proudly wear.” |

| “It is wonderful to get to spend time with agency drivers and other volunteer drivers,” shared Noreen. “I have been driving as a volunteer since 2019 and I really love it. I make my own schedule, I get to meet so many different people each day, and the mileage reimbursement helps my budget!” |

KVCAP purchased the new Fleet Services building on Allen Street in Waterville from David Mathieu Company in April of 2023. The purchase has proven to be an advantageous decision for the agency, as we do all of the maintenance and many of the repairs on all agency vehicles, which is a cost savings to the program.
“We are catching potential issues before they become a major problem and we are saving the agency money on repairs and maintenance,” said Melissa Young, Fleet Maintenance Manager and former David Mathieu Company employee who joined KVCAP during the transition. “Our agency vehicles drive hundreds of miles every day, so doing our maintenance in-house allows us to be proactive and ensure that the vehicles are safe, reliable, and able to last a long time.”
Bump, another volunteer driver talked about the years that his wife drove for KVCAP as a volunteer driver, and how when she started to have health issues he would help her with her shift. Two years ago, he decided to become a regular volunteer driver and brings people to appointments three days a week. “Some days I choose to drive for 7 hours, and others are as much as 10 hours, if the need is there,” he shared. “I enjoy meeting new people and this is a great way to do it, while seeing parts of the state I might not otherwise drive to. As a household living on disability income, the mileage reimbursement really helps our budget. I definitely plan to continue as long as my health allows.”
“Volunteer Drivers are a critical part of our operations and provide us additional flexibility to provide transportation in throughout our rural communities,” said Kirk Bellavance, Interim Senior Transportation Director. “Every volunteer that attended this event shared how much they love what we do and are happy to be involved in our efforts.”
