This program is open to homeschool students between the ages of 5 and 14. Please stay with your child for the program if possible.
Students will get the opportunity to see the Atlantic Salmon that are raised during the spring, from their egg phase in February through their fry stage in May. They will get to then release them into the Sandy River to help maintain the last surviving population of endangered Atlantic Salmon as part of the Maine Audubon “Fish Friends” program. The Fish Friends program is dedicated to helping Atlantic Salmon through learning about life cycles, highlighting Maine’s important habitat value, increasing awareness for Maine’s value for Atlantic Salmon, and encouraging participation in community projects
This free program will consist of a lesson on the life cycle of Atlantic Salmon, an activity book to go along with the lesson, and up-close experience looking at our Atlantic Salmon population.
