Join us for an intimate acoustic evening that bridges tradition and innovation. TAKAAT—pronounced “tuh-cot” and meaning “noise” in the Tuareg language Tamashek—features members of the renowned Mdou Moctar’s band. If you’re new to Tuareg music, think of it as a mesmerizing blend of desert blues, soulful improvisation, and hypnotic rhythms that echo the vast landscapes of the Sahara. TAKAAT brings a fresh, experimental twist to these age-old traditions, drawing on their rich heritage to create a sound that’s both raw and captivating.

Enhancing this special night is acclaimed Iraqi American oud master Jawad Al Fatlawi. Known for his innovative approach to the oud—a traditional stringed instrument central to Middle Eastern music—Jawad transforms its evocative, resonant tones into musical narratives that are both deeply emotional and uniquely modern. As an Applied Music Instructor at Colby College, he’s celebrated for his ability to make the oud accessible to newcomers while preserving its ancient essence.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or exploring Tuareg music for the first time, come experience an evening of enchanting acoustic melodies and cultural storytelling. This night promises to be an unforgettable journey into the heart of a musical tradition that is as timeless as it is revolutionary.
