Thomas College is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills to be part of the Finance Department. The position will evolve for a candidate seeking professional career growth. We envision that the position will initially focus on the month-end closing process to understand the systems that flow into the College’s financial statements. This position is accountable for reporting timely and accurate financial transactions for monthly financial statements through the general ledger system and financial systems integration.  This position is responsible for month-end closings including making necessary journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, etc.  This position is a member of the Compliance Committee and assists with compliance regulations such as vendor management and contract review. This position assists the Controller with grant accounting, budgeting, audit schedules, financial reporting, and special projects as assigned.

The candidate must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.  Must have the ability to work independently.  Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.  Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.  Accounting general-ledger packages preferred, Financial Edge a plus.  Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a closely related field is required.  An MBA and/or CPA preferred.  Five years of experience in accounting or finance preferred.  Experience in public accounting, grant and/or non-profit accounting a plus.  Confidentiality is of the utmost importance.  Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
