MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A minimum of five years’ experience working as a boiler engineer or similar role. Knowledge of building trades repair and HVAC systems. Current valid 4th class or higher Stationary Engineer’s license as issued by the Maine Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessels. Preference given to candidates with EPA 608 Certification. LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Class 4 or higher Stationary Engineer's license as issued by the Maine Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessels. A valid State of Maine Class C motor vehicle operator’s license. DESCRIPTION: This is structure and craft work involving the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam heating equipment, general facility maintenance and repair. Monitoring computerized environmental systems for comfort, safety, security and efficiency. Scheduling and tracking preventive maintenance and testing program; and developing reports and recommendations linked to achieving safe, secure, and efficient hospital operations. Responsibilities may include making routine and emergency repairs on heating, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC Systems and the building facility. Observing and ensuring life safety code compliance including but not limited to smoke detectors, pull stations, sprinklers and the general conditions of the facility and the enforcement of applicable safety laws, rules, regulations, codes, and standards. Work is performed under administrative direction. REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (This position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).•Oversees the operation of a large steam generating plant to ensure efficient and continuous production of steam .•Oversees the work of boiler operators to determine work is following established procedures and instructions.• Checks instruments and meters to monitor the operation of electrical power generating equipment and to maintain operating information log.• Guides and oversees the work of skilled and unskilled workers to accomplish maintenance and repairs of equipment and mechanical systems.• Installs, adjusts, and repairs a variety of equipment such as generators, pumps and refrigeration and cooling systems to ensure continuous provision of services.• Fires and tends boilers to provide continual coverage .•Answers emergency and/or hazardous condition calls and takes necessary action to identify and correct the problem. •Enters information into logs (manual and computerized) to maintain a record of communications during shift activities •Repairs, maintains, masonry/brick work, walls, and woodwork in buildings to ensure structural stability on for continued operational needs •Performs general emergency repair of heating, plumbing, and electrical such as clearing clogged drains, replacing fixtures and similar tasks to maintain systems for continued operational needs .•Operates snow removal and deicing equipment to clear walks, driveways, and roads.
Requirements
•Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of high-pressure heating plants and equipment such as generators, electric switchboards, motors, pumps, and related equipment .•Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions in the operation of high-pressure steam generating plants .•Knowledge of the mechanical and building trades. •Knowledge of pneumatic controls and functions .•Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions needed to perform essential repair work. •Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DEP, ADA, fire safety, and life safety guidelines and regulations .•Knowledge of time management, teamwork and attention to detail. •Knowledge of use of proper PPE for specific tasks as needed. •Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools. •Ability to operate, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration equipment .•Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specifications for mechanical and electrical equipment .•Ability to make emergency repairs to heating, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems .•Ability to supervise the work of boiler operators and other helpers .•Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions .•Ability to communicate effectively orally and written .•Ability to work independently and as part of a team. •Ability to apply general carpentry and masonry skills. •Ability to perform general mechanical repair work. •Ability to recognize abnormal system conditions, respond to alarms and direct appropriate personnel to maintain building safety and occupancy standards to prevent or correct equipment malfunction .•Ability to make independent judgements and decisions. •Ability to work in confined spaces, heights, and hot noisy environments.
