SKILLS, Inc is looking for a Driving Simulator Coordinator to work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build transportation and driving skills and make recommendations on their ability to complete a Driver Education training course.
The Driving Simulator Coordinator is responsible for day to day program development and implementation, including service delivery, and will also serve as the Project Coordinator. Key competencies include excellent oral communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-through, coaching, and the ability to assist people to adapt and overcome barriers to achieve new skills. The Driving Simulator Coordinator must be committed to the success of the program and have an innate sense of the capability of individuals with disabilities to become licensed drivers. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; Minimum 18 years of age; Five (5) years of full time experience working with people with disabilities; Creativity in deploying multiple strategies to overcome learning and repetition barriers; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Ability to utilize typical office technology and equipment; Experience in assisting people to learn new skills that may create feelings of anxiety, fear, and trepidation of the unknown for the people being supported. Excellent organizational skills. Positive work ethic that includes the understanding that driving is a buildable skill for people with disabilities; Valid Maine driver’s license and acceptable driving record; Ability to obtain a Driver Education Instructor Class A License (to teach operation of a Class C vehicle); Willingness to undergo extensive criminal, Adult and Child Protective Services, and other background and reference checks as required. This is a full-time position with a competitive wage ($17 - $23.97 per hour) and benefits.
