KVCC Nursing Clinical Instructor (Contract)

Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: MSEA Adjunct   Responsibilities The nursing clinical instructor provides supervised clinical education for Kennebec Valley Community College nursing students based upon professional standards of care, the protocols of the clinical facility, and the policies of the KVCC nursing department.

The nursing clinical instructor will:  instruct and directly supervise a group of no more than eight nursing students per        rotation in the clinical setting. •    select student assignments based upon the clinical objectives. •    communicate the selected patient assignment to each student in a timely and                comprehensive manner so that the student may                    adequately prepare for the care of their assigned patient(s). •    conduct a pre-conference prior to each clinical session in order to support              students in preparing for the clinical experience. •    communicate with the clinical rotation leader and other faculty members as       indicated regarding the delivery of the clinical instruction of the course.  review required written clinical assignments including relevant feedback. •    monitor students’ clinical performance. •    complete individual student evaluations per policy. •    intervene, if necessary, for the protection of patients when situations are beyond       the abilities of students. •    communicate weekly with students in journals to indicate progress toward       meeting clinical objectives. •    attend any clinical agency evaluation session (usually at the end of the semester),       if indicated. •    perform a self-directed orientation to the respective unit if needed. •    participate in Nursing Department faculty meetings as able. •    attend related workshops/classes at the College at the discretion of the course       coordinator. •    meet with the clinical rotation leader for orientation at the beginning of each       semester. •    communicate regularly with the clinical rotation leader through a system            identified  at the beginning of the semester; and     •    conduct a post-conference following each clinical session in order to support       students in the processing of the clinical experience.   Minimum Qualifications: A registered nurse in the state of Maine with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing (master's degree in nursing preferred)    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expert knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform comprehensive nursing care in medical/surgical, maternal/child, or mental health nursing.   APPLICATION PROCESS Initial review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
