POSITION TITLE: Occupational and Environmental Safety Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety programs to address workplace hazards and environmental risks.

Ensures program compliance with applicable regulations and standards through evaluations, inspections, and incorporation of best workplace safety practices. Designs effective policies, procedures, controls, and guidelines to establish a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Identifies and mitigates occupational and environmental risks and hazards though use of risk assessments and hazard analyses. Creates, maintains, and executes a comprehensive employee safety training program, securely maintaining training records. Collaborates with College employees to foster a positive and safety-conscious environment and culture institution-wide. Assists the college community, contractors, and stakeholders by providing exceptional customer service and essential safety information. Patrols buildings and grounds, monitors security systems and video cameras; enforces college policies, plans, rules, and regulations. Responds to and reports emergency situations, conducts investigations of incidents, accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes, and implements corrective measures for future prevention. Stays updated on industry standards and best practices, while conducting continuous evaluation of safety programs and initiatives, including feedback from employees and stakeholders to enhance safety performance.

QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s degree is required in Occupational Health and Safety or related field is preferred. In addition, the following are required:  valid Maine driver’s license (no criminal or extensive motor vehicle violation history); First Aid, CPR and AED certification; CHO training or Certification; up to and including two years of safety programs and compliance related experience; up to and including one year of security experience preferred.

SALARY: Salary and benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the Maine Community College System and the MSEA Support Services Bargaining Unit; Range 16, $19.45 – $21.93/hour ($40,456-$45,614.40 annually).  Benefits include: Retirement in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) – in lieu of Social Security; full employee health/dental insurance and approximately 60% of cost for dependent coverage; life insurance paid by the MCCS; Vacation 12 days/year; Sick 12 days/year; and 13 paid holidays.
