POSITION TITLE: Payroll Coordinator & HR Benefits Specialist (Pending Classification)

RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a confidential position serving as the primary contact responsible for preparation and processing of payroll ensuring accuracy of the bi-weekly payroll for all employees covered in five (5) collective bargaining units, confidential employees, student workers, and contracted employees.

This position is responsible for the collection and verification of college personnel records. This is professional work which provides employee onboarding and orientation, guidance to employees who are leaving college employ, administration of benefits, worker’s compensation, and assistance to employees within established authority in regard to confidential matters.

QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate degree in human resources, Business or related field and a minimum of four (4) years of office experience that includes payroll and/or human resources are required. A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field with related office experience that includes payroll and human resources is preferred.

Additional necessary or useful knowledge, skills and experience include: 4 years’ experience in Human Resources and/or Payroll; knowledge of Federal and State wage and hour laws, as well as of personnel administration and payroll compensation procedures; strong communication skills both oral and written, understand and apply instructions, and ability to deal effectively with people and to work independently; and attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Confidential Unit, Level 1, Salary range $40,429 – $55,559 (pending classification).  Benefits include: Retirement choice of Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) or Teachers Insurance & Annuity Association College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) – in lieu of Social Security; full employee health/dental insurance and approximately 60% of cost for dependent coverage; life insurance paid by the MCCS; Vacation 20 days/year; Personal 2 days/year; Sick 12 days/year; and 13 paid holidays.
