Notice of Hydrant Flow Testing – June |
What is hydrant flow testing and why is it performed?
Hydrant flow testing is an important part of maintaining the water system. By measuring water flow and pressure from individual hydrants, we are able to:
- Evaluate system performance and capacity
- Verify fire protection capabilities
- Identify areas where improvements may be needed
- Support system planning and maintenance efforts
What to expect during testing:
- Crews will be operating hydrants for short periods of time
- You may see water discharging from hydrants into streets, drainage areas, or nearby ditches
- Temporary pooling of water in the public right-of-way may occur
- Vehicles and equipment will be parked nearby while crews complete testing
Possible impacts to customers:
While we make every effort to minimize disruptions, hydrant testing can sometimes disturb sediment in the water mains. As a result:
- You may notice temporary discoloration of your water (reddish or brown tint)
- This discoloration is typically short-lived and does not pose a health risk
If you experience discolored water:
- Run your cold water tap for several minutes until it clears
- Avoid doing laundry until the water runs clear to prevent staining
- If discoloration persists, please contact our office for assistance at 207-872-2763
We appreciate your understanding as we complete this important work to ensure safe, reliable water service and maintain fire protection throughout the community.
