Have you ever watched the film “Pioneer Axe” produced by Peter Vogt? If not, please do!https://youtu.be/Qr4VTCwEfko?si=rQxCJUPVdrKOiD_U Peter graduated from Colby College, and his interest in Emerson & Stevens Manufacturing Company drew him back to the area after he enlisted in the US Air Force and became a Motion Picture Officer. This rare footage is an amazing stand-alone piece of our local history. It will give wonderful background for our interesting history talk on Thursday, September 19th when Howard Hardy and Roberta Drummond, our neighbors at Oakland Area Historical Society, come to present about the famous tools made in the factories of West Waterville, later Oakland. The number and types of tools (not just axes and scythes) being manufactured in these factories was astonishing for the time. The number of name changes and owners, along with rebuilds, moved about as fast as the water powering the mills. Come and learn about tools, tool making, and the rich industries and businesses the water provided for the area. If you have any of these locally made tools, bring them along! Howard and Roberta will be bringing items for everyone to see and learn about. The presentation will be unscripted as Howard says every audience is different. They never know what interesting items will be brought or the stories which will guide the presentation. Please join us!
The door opens at 6:00 p.m. for light refreshments and social time. The presentation will begin at 6:30. All are welcome; bring a friend, or two! Admission is free; donations are gladly accepted.
